Biography

Meredith Silberstein received her Ph.D. in June 2011 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with a major in solid mechanics and a minor in energy. Following this, she undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she investigated mechanochemically active materials. Her research focuses on the Mechanics Materials Design (MMD) Lab, which utilizes mechanical experiments and modeling methods for material design, particularly concentrating on multifunctional, active, polymeric materials. Her expertise further encompasses computational solid mechanics, materials design, micro-nano systems, solid mechanics, and advanced manufacturing materials. Additionally, she has a keen interest in teaching subjects related to statics, mechanics, and the mechanical properties of materials and polymers.
