Biography

Meredith Skiba is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan Medical School. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2018 and has completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on the molecular-level strategies cells use to sense chemical environments, particularly emphasizing G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). These receptors are crucial for regulating various physiological processes including immune responses, metabolism, and embryonic development. Given their importance, GPCRs are targets for approximately one-third of FDA-approved drugs. Skiba's lab combines structural biology, cellular biochemistry, receptor pharmacology, and protein engineering to explore receptor signaling and its implications in reproductive biology and pregnancy-associated diseases. She is particularly interested in cell signaling defects that contribute to infertility and aims to develop new strategies to improve maternal-fetal health. Additionally, her work involves antibody-based engineering to create precise pharmacological tools to probe receptor signaling.
