Dr. Meredith Whitten

Biography

Meredith Whitten holds a PhD in Regional Urban Planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she was awarded an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship. Her research focuses on the urban environment, particularly the intricate relationship between cities and nature, exploring how mediated planning can address urban sustainability. She emphasizes urban green space and green infrastructure, and her work examines planning governance frameworks that tackle the impacts of urbanization and change. Before her doctoral studies, she worked in public policy and urban planning across public, private, and nonprofit sectors in the UK, serving as a planning advisor and policy analyst. She is currently the chair of the American Association of Geographers' Landscape Specialty Group and co-founder of the Royal Geographical Society's Landscape Geography Working Group. In her roles, she has contributed to several initiatives, including the Mayor of London's Green Infrastructure Task Force and the London Green Spaces Commission. Whitten also leads research projects for departments within the UK government, focusing on housing and community development.
