Biography

Merel Jung is an assistant professor in the Department of Intelligent Systems at Tilburg University. Her current research interests cover automatic recognition of human behavior and interpersonal human-robot interaction using machine learning, with a focus on touch and haptic interaction. She previously held post-doctoral researcher positions at the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS), where her work focused on medical image analysis using deep learning, and at the University of Twente in the field of assistive technology. In 2017, she obtained her PhD in the automatic recognition of human touch behavior for socially intelligent robots. Merel has a background in psychology, having received her bachelor’s degree in 2010 and her master’s degree in 2012, with honors, in the Department of Cognitive Psychology and Ergonomics from the University of Twente.
