Dr. Merlise Clyde

Biography

Merlise Clyde is a Professor in the Department of Statistical Science at Duke University. She has been a faculty member since 2011 and has served as Chair since 2025. Her research interests lie in statistical modeling, encompassing model uncertainty, variable selection, and Bayesian methods. She is also involved in developing methodologies for nonlinear models and non-parametric function estimation, with applications in fields like bioinformatics, environmental science, and astro-statistics. Clyde has been recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and has published several influential papers in Bayesian analysis and statistical methods. She has led multiple research projects funded by notable institutions, focusing on complex disease models and applied mathematical sciences. Her educational background includes a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and master's degrees from the University of California and the University of Alberta.
