Biography

Merlyna Lim is a Canada Research Professor and Full Professor in Communication Media Studies at Carleton University, where she also serves as the Director of the ALiGN Media Lab. With a PhD in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Twente in the Netherlands, Lim has held the Canada Research Chair in Digital Media and Global Network Society since 2014. Her research focuses on the co-constitutive relationships between technology and society, particularly examining how digital infrastructures influence governance and public discourse. She uses an interdisciplinary approach, combining digital methods and critical theory to analyze disinformation networks and algorithmic publics, all while maintaining a focus on ethical and relational engagements. Lim has been recognized as a top researcher by Carleton University and inducted into the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists. She has delivered numerous invited talks globally and has appeared in over 200 media outlets, providing insights into contemporary issues surrounding digital media. Lim has previously held fellowships at prestigious institutions, including Princeton University and the London School of Economics.
