Biography

Mert Ozan Bahtiyar is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale University School of Medicine. He graduated from Istanbul University in Turkey in 1994 and subsequently completed his residency training in 2002, followed by a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at Yale University in 2004. Bahtiyar has been a member of the Yale MFM faculty since 2004 and specializes in ultrasound, fetal echocardiography, and invasive fetal therapy. He has contributed significantly to the field, leading a team that performed the first in-utero laser therapy for pregnancies complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome. His research interests also include the effects of intra-amniotic infection on fetal cardiac function and placental architecture in complicated pregnancies. He received the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) Endowment Education & Research grant in 2010 to further investigate the role of intra-uterine inflammation in fetal heart function.
