Biography

Meryem Saadi is an art historian, curator, and journalist based in Sweden. She relocated to Sweden in 2017 to pursue a Master’s in Art Curating at Stockholm University, followed by a post-master's course in Decolonizing Architecture at the Royal Institute of Art. Saadi has a diverse background, having previously worked with the National Foundation of Moroccan Museums. With over ten years of experience writing for Moroccan publications such as TelQuel, Saadi has produced and curated numerous art exhibitions in Sweden from 2018 to 2022. In 2020, she began her PhD in the Department of Art History at Uppsala University under an interdisciplinary research program titled 'Engaging Vulnerability.' Her doctoral thesis, 'Mobilising Vulnerability: Practices, Methods, Tactics of Rural Artist-Run Initiatives in Sweden,' analyzes how rural artist-run organizations in Sweden utilize vulnerability to generate artistic, curatorial, and pedagogical practices that resonate with local communities while engaging with the Swedish mainstream art world and institutional funders. Saadi’s research emphasizes the significance of self-organised groups and highlights the need for recognition and responsibility in addressing vulnerabilities within the art space.
