Dr. Metin Yaras

Biography

Dr. Metin Yaras is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the Technical University of Istanbul and both a Master of Engineering and a Ph.D. from Carleton University. His research is focused on the experimental and computational study of fluid flows with applications to aerospace, power generation, and biomedicine. Notable areas of his research include shear layer instability, forced convection heat transfer in heated supercritical fluids, transition and turbulence modeling, and aerodynamic optimization of lift-generating surfaces. Yaras has authored several significant publications, including studies on coherent flow structures, mixing mechanisms in lobed mixers, and transitional separation-bubble development, making substantial contributions to the field of fluid mechanics. He is dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation in aerospace applications and actively engages in mentoring students in research opportunities.
