Mette Bendixen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at McGill University. Her research focuses on gaining a quantitative understanding of dynamic landscape processes and examining the impact of coupled human-natural systems, particularly in relation to Arctic landscape changes and sediment dynamics affected by climate change. She also investigates the implications of these changes for local communities and the complex relationships associated with the increasing global demand for sand and gravel resources, as well as sustainable development. Additionally, Bendixen's current interests include the conflicts and synergies of sand mining in the increasingly populated African continent and Indigenous perspectives on resource exploration in Greenland. Before joining McGill, she earned her PhD from the Institute of Geosciences & Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR) at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
