Dr. Mette Berendt

Biography

Mette Berendt is a Professor of Veterinary Neurology at the University of Copenhagen. She has a DVM and PhD and is a member of the European College of Veterinary Neurology. Berendt leads the Danish Veterinary Neurology Research Group and has a strong focus on investigating central nervous system diseases such as dementia, ischaemic stroke, and epilepsy in family dogs. Her work emphasizes the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain and the potential for translational studies that benefit both animals and humans. Through collaborations with several universities and institutions, Berendt's research aims to uncover the molecular and neuropathological mechanisms behind these diseases. In addition to her research, she is responsible for teaching veterinary neurology at both the Bachelor and Master levels as well as postgraduate education. Her international recognition is also highlighted by her involvement in global congresses and courses. Berendt has a notable scientific stay abroad at Cornell University, New York, and the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science in Oslo, enhancing her expertise in the field.
