Dr. Mette Bisgaard

Biography

Mette Smith Bisgaard is a medical doctor and postdoctoral researcher at Aarhus University, working in the Department of Public Health - Sport Science. Her primary research interests are focused on female physiology, particularly how female sex hormones interact with physical activity and training, and their effects on health and pathology. She is passionate about understanding the physiological aspects of women’s health and physical performance, especially during pregnancy. Mette is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary collaborations with national and international researchers. In addition to her research, she teaches courses in exercise physiology, supervising undergraduate and master’s students involved in research projects. Her expertise includes training, endocrinology, and the role of physical activity in various physiological contexts, especially concerning women. Throughout her career, she has engaged in multiple projects, including those investigating the effects of estrogen on muscle loss and recovery in postmenopausal women, alongside a project focusing on physical activity during pregnancy. Mette is actively involved in research and education, contributing to a deeper understanding of female health through scientific inquiry and mentoring.
