Biography

Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen is the Cret Chair Professor of Practice in the Department of Architecture at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design and the director of the Centre for IT and Architecture (CITA) at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, Design Conservation. She focuses on the intersections of architecture and advanced computational design processes, examining the profound changes that digital technologies are instigating in the way architecture is conceived, designed, and constructed. In 2005, she founded the CITA, which plays a central role in the international research field exploring the changes in material practice within architecture. Her work includes leadership of various research investigations and development of innovative concepts and technologies in collaboration with the international Marie Curie ITN network 'Innochain,' as well as the ERC project 'Eco-Metabolistic Modelling Architectural Design.' Thomsen is currently a general reporter for the head science track of the 2023 UIA Congress, focusing on how architecture can contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
