Biography

Mia Maki joined the faculty at the Gustavson School of Business in 2007, bringing over 25 years of teaching and facilitation experience. She is part of the entrepreneurship team, teaching courses in entrepreneurial finance and venture planning, as well as accounting and managerial finance at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Mia facilitates executive education and continuing education programs for Chartered Professional Accountants in British Columbia and Alberta. Previously, she served as CFO and COO at IVL Technologies, consulting for various technology and non-tech companies. In her role, Mia helped raise $50 million for international initiatives and strategic partnerships, particularly in Japan and Europe. She also provided risk assessment support for BC Ferries on a significant capital acquisition program. Mia is a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia since 2005 and actively volunteers in her community, serving on multiple boards and committees, including as board chair for Archipelago Marine Research. She has published work on Doughnut Economics and its implications for business models.
