Miao Cui is an Assistant Professor in the PhD Program in Biological Biomedical Sciences. Her research focuses on understanding the regenerative abilities of cardiac cells, particularly in contrast between adult mammalian hearts and newborn mouse hearts. Her laboratory employs single-cell genomic approaches and in vivo injury models to investigate how cardiac cells respond to injury and regulate heart regeneration in neonates. The ultimate goal of her work is to inform strategies in regenerative medicine. By studying injury-induced extrinsic cues that affect cardiomyocytes, as well as the transcriptional regulation of cardiac cell state transitions in response to injury, she aims to unlock the potential for regeneration in human hearts.
