Dr. Mic Patterson

Biography

Mic Patterson is a designer, researcher, educator, futurist, author, photographer, and entrepreneur with an extensive professional academic career focused on advanced façade technology and sustainable building practices. He pioneered the introduction of structural glass façade technology in the 1990s, implementing various novel applications including cable trusses, cable nets, and grid shells. Currently, he serves as an Ambassador for Innovation & Collaboration and is a board member of the Facade Tectonics Institute, an organization where he acted as the inaugural president. As an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California School of Architecture, he teaches courses such as 'Advanced Building Skins: Designing High Performance Façades.' He has also contributed to the founding of the Facades+ conference series through Architect's Newspaper, and has been recognized as one of the industry's influential figures by Glass magazine. Patterson's research focuses on structural glass facades and sustainable curtainwall practices for tall building applications, and he has authored the book 'Structural Glass Facades Enclosures' published by Wiley. Throughout his career, he has taught and lectured internationally on various aspects of advanced façade technology and aims to provide students with the foundational technical skillset necessary for the design and delivery of high-performance façade systems.
