Dr. Micaela Amato Amateau

Biography

Micaela Amato Amateau, born in 1945 in New York, is a distinguished artist and Professor Emerita whose work has significantly contributed to the fields of Studio Art and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Boston University in 1968 and went on to earn her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1973. Her artistic career commenced with exhibitions at the Kornblee Gallery in New York City in 1974 and has seen her work displayed both nationally and internationally, including venues such as Angles Gallery, Paintings Edge, Skirball Art Museum, and numerous others across the United States and in Sweden. Amateau's work has been included in public collections at prominent institutions like the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, the Denver Art Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. She has been recognized with awards including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and grants from the Pollock Krasner Foundation. Her contributions to the art world have also encompassed public lectures at institutions like the Brooklyn Museum and participation in numerous curated exhibitions.
