Dr. Micaela Berry Smith

Biography

Micaela Berry-Smith is a seasoned leader with 15 years of experience in birth equity, early childhood education, and social entrepreneurship. She earned her B.S. in Early Childhood Development from Metro State University in St. Paul, MN, and completed her Doula Training through DONA International in Madison, WI, in 2014. Micaela is also a Certified Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and has received training from the African American Breastfeeding Alliance. Throughout her dedicated career, she has advocated for maternal and child health with a focus on addressing systemic disparities in healthcare. Micaela's extensive work with children and families in diverse settings has driven her to lead numerous high-impact initiatives, including serving as Co-Executive Director of the Harambee Village Doulas and as the owner of a nanny service in southwest Wisconsin. Currently, she works as the Senior Program Manager for Community Maternal and Child Health Initiatives at the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness in Madison, WI. Her commitment to social justice and health equity is evident through her involvement in various committees and boards, including the Black Maternal and Child Health Alliance, the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care, the WI Women’s Medical Fund, and the Biden/Harris Reproductive Freedom Tour Committee. Micaela is passionate about advocating for comprehensive healthcare reform and believes in the power of community engagement to drive meaningful change. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2019 Madison Magazine Innovator of the Year award.
