Biography

Michaël Aklin is an Associate Professor of Economics Management Innovation at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he holds the Chair in Policy & Sustainability. He joined EPFL in 2023 and is also a co-managing director of the Enterprise for Society (E4S) initiative, which he jointly founded with IMD and the University of Lausanne. Prior to his current role, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh. Aklin completed his PhD at New York University and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the economics and politics of sustainable development, particularly regarding policies that promote sustainable practices. He has published in several prestigious interdisciplinary journals, including Nature Energy, PNAS, and Science Advances, and has extensive publications in specialized journals of economics and political science, as well as in public policy. His work has also resulted in co-authored books published by MIT Press. He teaches courses related to Management Technology and supervises PhD students.
