Biography

Michael Akritas is a Professor Emeritus of Statistics at Penn State University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1978, and completed his M.Sc. at the University of Southampton, England in 1974, and his B.Sc. at the University of Athens, Greece in 1972. Akritas is a co-founder and an executive committee member of the International Society for Nonparametric Statistics (ISNPS) from 2012 to 2018. He served as an Associate Editor for several journals, including Statistics & Probability Letters and the Journal of the American Statistical Association, and currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Brazilian Journal of Statistics since 2012. Akritas has held various significant positions in his career, including director of the National Statistical Consulting Center in Astronomy from 1994 to 2001, and has taught at prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the National Technical University of Athens. He has received recognition through his election as a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association in 2001. His research focuses on non-parametrics, high-dimensional data modeling, factorial designs, and testing.
