Dr. Michael Baffoe

Biography

Michael Baffoe is a Professor at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Social Work. His academic background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work and Educational Studies from McGill University, in addition to a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from the same institution. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Political Science from the University of Ghana. Dr. Baffoe's research emphasizes anti-oppression approaches within social work practice, with a focus on human rights, immigrant and refugee issues, international social work, and community development. He actively engages in teaching courses related to Anti-Oppression Social Work Practice and Community Development in International Social Work. Dr. Baffoe has significantly contributed to community organizing, having worked with immigrant and refugee organizations in Canada for over sixteen years. He founded the Black Star Big Brothers organization, which provided mentorship programs for Black children in single-parent families in Montreal for twelve years. He has also taught community organizing strategies at both McGill University and Concordia University for extended periods.
