Biography

Michael Bassik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University. His primary research interests revolve around understanding the mechanisms of cancer growth and drug resistance, alongside the characterization of novel small molecule drugs. He aims to discover new therapeutic targets and delve into the endocytosis and phagocytosis processes employed by macrophages to handle diverse materials, including bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, drugs, and protein toxins. Dr. Bassik employs cutting-edge technologies such as high-throughput functional genomics and complex CRISPR/Cas9 and RNAi-based libraries for genome-wide screenings, which enable systematic genetic interaction maps and targeted mutagenesis. A collaborative approach defines his work, as he partners with other researchers to use tools that annotate genome variation in health and disease states. He currently supervises various doctoral dissertation projects and participates actively in graduate fellowship programs within the Biomedical Data Science PhD program.
