Dr. Michael Baylson

Biography

Michael M. Baylson is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. He served as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, having been appointed by President George W. Bush on July 12, 2002. Before his judicial appointment, Judge Baylson held several significant roles within the legal community, including serving as an Assistant District Attorney under District Attorney Arlen Specter from January 1966, where he advanced to become the Chief of the Homicide Division in 1969. In January 1970, he joined the law firm Duane Morris, where he became a partner in 1974 and specialized in complex civil litigation, including class actions and antitrust issues. He served as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from October 1988 to January 1993 before returning to Duane Morris to continue his active law practice. He has also been involved in various community services, notably as a founder and counsel for Gaudenzia, Inc., a major non-profit provider of drug and mental health rehabilitation services in Pennsylvania. Additionally, Judge Baylson is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Civil Rules of Practice and Procedure for the Judicial Conference of the United States.
