Dr. Michael Bender

Biography

Associate Professor in the Department of Social Psychology at Tilburg University, Michael Bender is a Research Fellow at the Babylon, Center for the Study of Multicultural Society. He is also an Honorary Professor at the School of Psychology at Gratia Christian College in Hong Kong, China. His research interests include work and study culture, particularly acculturation and international student adjustment, as well as topics related to threat, inter-group behavior, and identity. He is passionate about teaching and integrating cultural psychology into the curriculum, focusing on methodological appropriateness in studies and tools, often leading workshops at summer schools. He has collaborated with Byron Adams to edit the textbook 'Methods of Assessment in Cultural Psychology' published by Cambridge. In addition to his academic role, he values collaboration in working teams aimed at meaningful project goals and is the editor of an Open Access Journal on Online Readings in Psychology and Culture. Michael is an active member of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology and the International Academy of Intercultural Research, serving as a board member for the Central Committee on Cultural Diversity in Psychology of the Dutch Institute of Psychologists. He has received multiple grants including a Marie Curie Fellowship from the European Union and the Comenius Teaching Fellowship from the Dutch NWO.
