Biography

Michael Bernitsas is a renowned professor in the field of Mechanical Engineering, currently holding the position of Mortimer E Cooley Collegiate Professor in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan. With a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology obtained in 1979, Bernitsas has dedicated his career to advancing the understanding of energy conversion systems. His research focuses on several advanced topics, including enhancement techniques for high-damping and high-Reynolds vortex-induced vibration, methods for the suppression of vortex-induced vibration, and the dynamics of mooring systems.
