Biography

Michael Bevan, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, focuses on measuring and manipulating nanoparticle and biomolecular interactions, dynamics, and structures in interfacial confined systems. The Bevan Lab’s findings are of direct relevance to traditional complex fluid and soft matter applications, such as coatings, ceramics, and consumer products, as well as emerging nanotechnologies involving particle-based materials, including metamaterials and drug delivery devices like antennas and diagnostics. His approach involves the development of an integrated suite of advanced microscopy and computer simulation tools to design, control, and optimize colloidal interactions for advanced material, environmental, and biomedical applications. Bevan received a BS in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from Lehigh University in 1994 and a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999. He was named a fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2016.
