Dr. Michael Blower

Biography

Michael Blower is a Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He received his B.A. from Miami University (Ohio) and his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, under the mentorship of Gary Karpen. Following his doctoral studies, he completed his postdoctoral training as a Damon Runyon Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, working with Rebecca Heald and Karsten Weis. Blower's current research focuses on the interaction of RNA and chromatin, specifically how these interactions influence chromatin structure and gene expression. His lab employs a multidisciplinary approach that integrates cell biology, in vitro reconstitution, genomics, bioinformatics, and CRISPR genome engineering. He is a recipient of the Burroughs-Wellcome Fund Career Award in Biomedical Sciences and has received numerous NIH grants for his research projects, including those investigating chromatin-RNA interactions throughout the cell cycle. Blower's collaborative work is well recognized in the academic community, with multiple publications detailing his significant contributions to the fields of biochemistry and cell biology.
