Biography

Michael Boemo is an Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Pathology and the Department of Genetics. His research focuses on genomic instability, characterized by the rapid accumulation of mutations commonly observed in cancer cells. He is particularly interested in understanding the defective DNA replication and repair mechanisms that instigate this genomic instability. Boemo completed his BA in Mathematics at Rutgers University and his PhD in Physics at the University of Oxford. His approach combines mathematics and computer science to develop machine learning and high-performance simulation techniques, aiming to unravel the underlying causes of DNA replication and repair defects. His work allows for the exploration of novel avenues targeting these defects for therapeutic interventions in human cancer cells and pathogens. Boemo is also a fellow at St. John's College and serves as the Sub-Director of Studies in Mathematics and Biological Natural Sciences. His lab focuses on developing high-performance mathematical modeling and AI models to analyze large genomic sequencing datasets, creating scalable software for broad use within collaborative labs. He welcomes inquiries from prospective students and postdocs looking to join his lab.
