Dr. Michael Böhlen

Biography

Michael Böhlen is a professor in the Department of Informatics at the University of Zürich, focusing on database technology. His research interests encompass aspects of data management, including time-varying information, data warehousing, similarity search in databases, and data analysis. He has a strong technological focus on constructing data-centric systems, query processing, data modeling, and query languages. Böhlen has held various positions at reputable institutions, including the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Aalborg University, and the University of Arizona. He is actively involved in several scientific services, such as serving as an associate editor for the ACM Transactions on Database Systems, and he has been part of various program committees in prestigious conferences like VLDB and SIGMOD. He has co-organized workshops and initiatives aimed at visual data mining and has contributed significantly to research projects, including the MEDAN competence center for medical data warehousing analysis. Böhlen also supervises PhD students and teaches courses on distributed database systems and data mining.
