Biography

Michael Bruter is an Associate Vice President for Research and Director of the Electoral Psychology Observatory at the London School of Economics. His research primarily focuses on democracy, electoral psychology, and political behavior, utilizing innovative research methods to approach democratic behaviors and crises. Bruter's original work has led to considerable recognition, including an invitation to present his research during the prestigious Nobel Prize 2024 Dialogue on the future of democracy. Notably, he has been the first social scientist invited to give the annual keynote at the European Parliament's Science Technology Panel. His research has taken him to esteemed venues such as the United Nations and the UK Houses of Parliament, as well as presenting on significant occasions like the International Day of Democracy. Among his accolades, he won the Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year in Social Sciences and the Outstanding International Impact award from the Economic and Social Research Council. He has published extensively, including seven books, such as 'Mind Voter' and 'Citizens of Europe,' and numerous articles in leading social science journals. Bruter has secured over 5 million euros in funding as the principal investigator for multiple grants from various renowned organizations, contributing valuable insights into democratic hostility, electoral ergonomics, and the intergenerational tensions within democracies.
