Biography

Michael Chua is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto, specializing in Urology and Global Health. He completed his medical education and Urology residency at St. Luke's Medical Center in the Philippines, where he served as chief resident. He successfully completed the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System Training at Harvard Medical School in collaboration with Boston Children's Hospital. Following his residency, he undertook a research fellowship in Urodynamics and Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction at Buddhist Tzu Chi General Hospital in New Taipei, Taiwan. Dr. Chua joined the Division of Urology at Hospital Sick Children from 2015 to 2017, where he completed a year of pediatric training and subsequently pursued an Adult and Pediatric Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery Clinical Fellowship from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Virginia, USA. He returned to Hospital Sick Children to focus further on Adolescent Transitional Urology and completed a Pediatric Clinical Fellowship in 2019. Currently, he is working towards a Master's in Applied Science in Global Health Planning and Management at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health and serves as a teaching assistant at Dalla Lana School of Public Health – Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation. His research interests include transitional urologic care, global surgery, pediatric endourology, genitourinary reconstructive surgeries, neurogenic bladders, evidence-based practice, and data science.
