Dr. Michael Cohen

Biography

Michael Cohen, MD, is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Cornell University and graduated from medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cohen completed his residency in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at Boston Medical Center in 2014 and subsequently joined the faculty. His clinical practice focuses on adult and pediatric sleep apnea, while his research interests include sleep apnea, snoring, and social determinants of health. He is dedicated to medical education for residents and medical students and has received several awards, including the Jeffrey H. Spiegel Award and the Charles Vaughan Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award. Dr. Cohen has a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, aiming to serve traditionally marginalized populations through his work at the Boston Medical Center, where he also trains to care for transgender patients, supervised by Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel, a pioneer in facial feminization surgery. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he actively participates in the admissions committee of the medical school, advocating for a diverse student body that reflects the population they serve. Dr. Cohen is dedicated to creating a learning community that welcomes individuals from various backgrounds, ensuring equitable access to care.
