Dr. Michael D Alessandro

Biography

Michael D'Alessandro is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Duke University, specializing in American literature and theater history during the long nineteenth century. His principal research focuses on the significance of social class in the reception of well-known works in the literary canon, as well as long-forgotten theatrical melodramas. His teaching encompasses both the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, where he engages students with various aspects of literature and its cultural implications. D'Alessandro holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from Boston University, an M.F.A. in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism from Yale University, and a B.A. from Hamilton College. He has published works in esteemed journals, including American Literary History and Theatre Survey, and has presented research on the intersections of literature and popular theater. D'Alessandro also serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of English, demonstrating his commitment to education and mentorship.
