Biography

Michael Dease is one of the world's eminent trombonists, recognized for his versatile sound and signature improvisations on more than 200 recordings with a range of Grammy-winning artists. Born in Augusta, Georgia, he began playing saxophone and trumpet before switching to trombone at age 17. In 2001, he relocated to New York City to join the historic class of jazz students at the Juilliard School, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees and quickly established a reputation as a brilliant soloist and bandleader. Dease's eighth album, 'Give Got,' received acclaim from JazzTimes and Downbeat magazine. He has worked with notable musicians, including Christian McBride and Alicia Keys, and has revitalized the trombone's image through both performance and composition. He is also a dedicated teacher and has received multiple teaching awards, including the Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year Award. Dease founded the Jazz Institute Brevard and directs the Seiko Summer Jazz Camp in Japan. His contributions to music education and performance have earned him a place among today's leading jazz trombonists.
