Professor Dr. Michael Drescher

Biography

Michael Drescher is an Associate Professor in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Ecology Resource Conservation from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and an MSc in Ecology from Utrecht University. Dr. Drescher's research focuses on environmental conservation and natural resource use, examining the socio-economic dynamics that drive land use change. His work also emphasizes adoption of environmental management practices, the planning and management of urban ecosystems, and issues relating to environmental justice and equity. He has contributed extensively to understanding private landowner conservation behaviors, urban ecology, and climate change mitigation. Dr. Drescher has supervised numerous graduate students in their research and has published significantly in various high-impact journals, ranging from conservation science to urban studies. His collaborative projects and research interests highlight the importance of participatory approaches to achieve effective environmental management and conservation outcomes.
