Biography

Michael Edwards is an Associate Professor at the National Heart & Lung Institute within Imperial College London. He completed his PhD in 2001 at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, where he began his research career focused on respiratory medicine and infections. Post-PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate with Professor Sebastian Johnston at Imperial College London. In 2007, Edwards was awarded a Fellowship from Asthma UK to investigate the molecular mechanisms of deficient interferon responses in asthmatic bronchial epithelial cells. He has garnered research funding from several reputable organizations including Asthma UK, the British Lung Foundation, and GlaxoSmithKline. His research interests encompass pattern recognition during viral infection, transcriptional signaling events related to inflammatory responses, and the efficacy of corticosteroids in silencing chemokines that attract neutrophils in bronchial epithelial cells. In addition to his research, Edwards serves as a postgraduate tutor and is a member of the NHLI's Higher Degrees Committee.
