Michael began his studies at the University of Western Australia (UWA) with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2008 and submitted his PhD thesis in 2017, completing his doctoral supervision at UWA's School of Psychological Science. Following this, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate, continuing the research line he started during his PhD. His research centers on the role that autistic-like traits play in the allocation of attention, with specific interests in attentional lateralization, global/local processing, and emotion processing. This work led to the development of the Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory (CATI), which has been embraced by the autism research community for its inclusivity in assessing autistic characteristics. Currently, he serves as a Senior Project Officer for the Healing Kids, Healing Families team at the Kids Research Institute, Australia, led by Professor Jeneva Ohan. His projects aim to understand and overcome the traumas and adversities that negatively affect children, including developing novel assessments for dissociation in childhood and adolescents, as well as improving parent interactions with the WA Newborn Emergency Transport Service. His expertise relates to the UN Sustainable Development Goals established in 2015, supporting the goals of education and academic qualification in psychological counseling and research.
