Michael completed his Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biotechnology at Murdoch University in 2001. His research career began at the Royal Perth Hospital under the supervision of Professor Jacqueline Bentel. From 2002 to 2017, he led various projects in RNA biology, gene regulation, and microRNA involvement in cancer, with a specific emphasis on prostate cancer during his collaboration with Professor Peter Leedman at the WA Institute for Medical Research (Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research). In July 2020, he became the BioSample Repository Manager at the University of Western Australia, overseeing the WA DNA Bank, which has been rebranded as the UWA Biorepository. His role involves fostering a biobanking culture at the University and ensuring the proper management of biological samples and data. Michael has recently completed the Qualification in Biorepository Science certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories.
