Biography

Michael Ewers is the principal investigator of the Ewers Lab at LMU Munich University Hospital. His research focuses on brain imaging biomarker research, particularly in understanding the factors that drive the progression of brain pathologies and confer cognitive resilience in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Ewers employs neuroimaging techniques, particularly MRI-based functional network mapping, along with genetics and biofluid analyses, to predict the progression of key AD pathologies. A central aspect of his work is the investigation of tau pathology and its interaction with myelin changes in the brain. He has contributed to understanding the biological pathways impacting AD through gene set enrichment analyses and polygenic risk scores. Ewers aims to integrate dynamic brain changes over time to develop precision medicine approaches for AD patients, improving predictive accuracy and intervention strategies. He has a significant publication record in the field and collaborates with various researchers worldwide.
