Dr. Michael Farwell

Biography

Michael Farwell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds an MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and has extensive academic training with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Union College and a Master's degree in Chemistry from Harvard University. His research expertise is centered on oncologic applications of molecular imaging, with a strong emphasis on developing new imaging tools for the rapidly growing field of cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Farwell is particularly interested in the development of novel radiotracers and reporter genes for CAR T cell tracking, as well as the development of radiolabeled antibodies for PET imaging of the immune system. His laboratory employs an interdisciplinary approach, utilizing expertise in organic chemistry, radiochemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, and bioengineering to tackle significant challenges in translational research. Projects often begin with in vitro studies and animal models, with the ultimate goal of clinical application.
