Dr. Michael Favere Marchesi

Biography

With years of public and private accounting practice, Michael Favere-Marchesi embarked on his academic career fueled by a passion for research and teaching. Currently an associate professor in accounting at the Beedie School of Business, he leverages extensive industry experience to enrich lectures on auditing, forensic accounting, and managerial accounting. Before joining SFU, he taught at esteemed institutions including the Monterey Institute of International Studies, H.E.C. Paris, and the Helsinki School of Economics. His research interests focus on audit judgment decision-making, fraud, and international accounting. Dr. Favere-Marchesi obtained his B.S. and Master of Accountancy from Brigham Young University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. He has directed NIDA'S Global MBA program in Thailand and has proficiency in French, Spanish, and conversational Thai. His leadership roles include serving as President of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association and contributing to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Dr. Favere-Marchesi is recognized for his scholarly contributions to auditing research and for his role in enhancing the academic community's engagement on international activities.
