Biography

Michael Felsberg is a Professor and Head of Division at Linköping University, focusing on a wide range of topics within artificial visual systems (AVS). His research encompasses three-dimensional computer vision, computational imaging, object detection, tracking, recognition, and robot vision for autonomous systems. Felsberg's work aims to design artificial visual systems modeled on human visual systems (HVS), which has proven to be a challenging task that generations of researchers have attempted with limited success. He emphasizes the intuitive nature of vision, which complicates the understanding of the numerous problems involved in designing AVS. Felsberg believes that past challenges in visual perception have been underestimated compared to symbolic analytic problems, and he seeks to enhance the capabilities of AVS through a HVS-inspired approach, with the goal that AVS can coexist with humans and anticipate their actions.
