Dr. Michael Fine

Biography

Michael Fine is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Sociology at Macquarie University, Sydney. With over thirty years in research, teaching, and publishing, he has focused on social policy, ageing, and human services. He previously served as the Head of the Department of Sociology from 2008 to 2012 and was a Senior Research Fellow at the Social Policy Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. He has contributed significantly to the policy landscape through roles such as a member of the NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing and the NSW Carers Advisory Council. His editorial work includes being an editor and board member for multiple journals, and he plays a key role in initiatives aimed at improving community care practices. Michael has authored a book on caregiving dilemmas and leads a research project collaborating with Australian community care providers to develop new care outcome measures. In addition to his academic achievements, he has been actively engaged in professional organizations like the Australian Association of Gerontology, where he was once elected president of the NSW Division.
