Biography

Michael Flower received a B.A. in Classical Languages from the University of California at Berkeley in 1978 and a B.A. in Classics from University College, Oxford University in 1981, focusing on ancient history and philosophy. He completed his Ph.D. in Classics at Brown University in 1986. After teaching at Franklin and Marshall College, he joined the faculty at Princeton University in 2003. Flower has published extensively, including articles on ancient Sparta that explore themes of political ideology and religion. Flower has also co-taught interdisciplinary graduate courses on Greek and Roman Religion and has a passion for teaching favorite authors like Herodotus and Xenophon.
