Biography

Raised in Timberlea, Nova Scotia, Michael Fournier began his academic career at Mount Saint Vincent University before transferring to Dalhousie University, where he completed his BA and MA in Classics. His Master's thesis focused on the development of Augustinian themes in the 'Proslogion' of Saint Anselm. He later received his PhD in Philosophy from Boston College, with his dissertation reinterpreting the traditional philosophical consolations found in Cicero and Seneca while reevaluating the influence of Boethius’ 'Consolation of Philosophy'. His current research explores Boethius’ Greek and Latin sources, the use of the quadrivium in the 'Consolation', and the significance of Neoplatonic poetics in the interpretation of the 'Consolation’s' Homeric allusions, as well as its literary and philosophical parallels to Cicero’s 'Tusculan Disputations'.
