Biography

Michael’s love for design is evident in his teaching, research, and practice. As a registered architect and founder of G+G Creative, he directed the Master of Architecture program at the School of Architecture from 2015 to 2022. His design-driven research operates at a variety of scales, from houses to urban environments, with an emphasis on innovation, history, and imagination. Michael has received numerous awards for excellence in design and scholarship. He is currently working on a book about the role of history in the drawing of design education, titled "Quantum Poems", which is forthcoming. He played a pivotal role in the acquisition of a $30 million gift for the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design, actively participating in pre-planning, design competition team formation, and execution of the building. He has led several interdisciplinary design studios connected to this initiative and chaired the Academic Research Council related to the project.
