Biography

Professor Michael W. Gee specializes in developing efficient methods for numerical simulation of complex mechanical and physical phenomena. His primary focus is on efficient methods in computational structural and fluid mechanics, frictional contact, algebraic multigrid techniques, and multiphysics coupled problems. His research also addresses inverse and control problems under uncertainty. In terms of applications, he concentrates on interdisciplinary projects involving biomechanics, mechanobiology, medical device development, and aerospace applications. Professor Gee studied civil engineering at the University of Stuttgart, where he also earned his doctorate in computational mechanics. After several years as a scientific employee in the Computational Mathematics and Parallel Algorithms Department at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, USA, he joined the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2006, where he led research groups in biomechanics, frictional contact, parallel algebraic multilevel methods, and software design for high-performance computing. In 2011, he was appointed as an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and teaches Engineering Mechanics and Advanced Parallel Computing at TUM Munich School of Engineering.
