Michael Gehm received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 1992. He earned A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Duke University in 1998 and 2003, respectively. From 2003 to 2005, he served as a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Duke, before becoming an Assistant Research Professor in the same department. In 2007, he moved to the University of Arizona as an Assistant Professor of ECE and was also appointed as an Assistant Professor of Optical Sciences in 2009. Gehm was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013 before returning to Duke as an Associate Professor of ECE, where he also took on a secondary appointment in Physics in 2021. By 2022, he was promoted to Professor in both ECE and Physics. His primary research interests include computational compressive sensing measurement modalities, particularly focusing on Electromagnetic, Optical, RF, and x-ray forms of mass spectrometry, as well as optical physics, high-performance x-ray simulation, and rapid-prototyping for advanced electromagnetic structures. He is a Fellow of Optica and SPIE.
