Michael Gervers has been teaching history, particularly focusing on Medieval History, Art History, and Social History, at the University of Toronto since 1976. He became a Full Professor in 1984 after serving as an Assistant Professor at New York University. Gervers is known for his contributions to the study of medieval English property exchange documents and has authored or edited 18 books and 75 articles covering various aspects of medieval history, art history, archaeology, and textile history. He founded the D.E.E.D.S. Project (Documents Early England Data Set), which includes an online database of 11,000 property-transfer documents from late 11th century to 1307. He is also engaged in the Digging Data Project entitled ChartEx, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Additionally, he has founded the Central Inner Asia Seminar and established an online database of Ethiopian art and culture. Currently, he is working with the UTSC Library to digitize a manuscript collection from a 15th-century Ethiopian monastery.
