Dr. Michael Goodisman

Biography

Professor Michael Goodisman serves as the Associate Chair in the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Georgia in 1998, following a B.A. in Genetics from Cornell University in 1992. His research focuses on sociality, particularly in social insects, which exhibit advanced levels of social behavior that dominate ecological communities. Goodisman's work delves into the evolution of social systems and how such systems influence broader evolutionary processes. He has developed various educational programs, including study abroad initiatives in Costa Rica and Australia. Goodisman teaches courses in Genetics, Bioethics, and Behavioral Biology and has directed projects like the Nature, Governance, & Sustainability program. His numerous publications highlight innovations in understanding the genetic and behavioral aspects of social insects and their responses to environmental changes.
